The More Artifical The World Becomes, The more Valuable Reality Becomes | San Diego Boudoir Photographer
I am san diego based boudoir photographer, and as someone in the industry for over 10 years, I’ve adapted to so much change in the world and in my industry.
Last week I got fired up over something another photographer shared. It was a magazine with a whole beauty section of beautiful photos of the usual tall, elegant, gorgeous model. The article itself was on beauty trends for cosmetic purposes.
When the photographer looked for the image credit, she was disheartened to see that it was all AI.
See, for me, yes it's upsetting to see an entire creative team of people essentially wiped out from something as creative as a photoshoot. That's perhaps a topic for another day. But really made me feel some type of way was how this was an article about beauty standards showcasing a “woman” who was not real [lolololol]
Like, what? The article talked about confidence.
Come again?
There's just a lot to unpack here. The loss of jobs for creative people who would have otherwise been hired for a photoshoot. The fact that beauty standards are being shown to us on people who …. don't exist? Then to talk about confidence?
I sent it to my boyfriend and went off about how it all just feels unfair to be a woman and if it didn't suck before it sure as hell does now. Now we have literal unreal AI generated images from a prompt telling us what beauty and confidence is / isn't.
He reminded me it's not AI's fault. It's not GLP-1's fault. It's capitalism. And that quickly snapped me back into reality and reminded me that yeah, as fucked as it is to say, as long as there is capitalism, there will be this. In whatever form it continues to morph into.
And then I had some sessions this weekend where I felt connection. Real life human connection. Not just me taking photos. But sharing experiences. Laughs. Making art out of my client. Showing them how beautiful they really are.
AI cannot replicate the connection photographers get to create with their clients.
And so if you're still reading this - listen up.
If you're a photographer listen up. If you're a client to be listen up.
Photographers- the time is now to decide what we want to choose to do. We can sit in our anger and bitterness and resentment over the things we truly have 0 control over. Or we can look at the opportunities presenting themselves here.
The more artificial the world becomes, the more radical it becomes to be real. (yes, read that again)
We have the power here. People are craving connection. Reality. Proof of humanness. We can adapt to this by staying strong in our industries as creatives and to continue showing up and doing what we do best.
Clients to be - this is the time to support artists. To buy from them. To book photoshoots. To participate in LIFE.
With me, it's always been more than a photoshoot. It's about the forging of my energy with your energy to create unique photos that feel authentic to you. It's about giving you the gift of SEEING yourself. It's about the collaboration. The experimentation. The crying. The sharing stories. The sharing experiences. The HEALING.
The real life tangible shit that AI could never touch.
Anyways, these are just my real, unfiltered, non-chatGPT, probably typo filled thoughts.
If you feel inspired to do something radical and real then my job is done.
If you feel inspired to book a photoshoot with me, I hope you do.
And not to be all “hey here's a sale” but I am offering $300 off all my collections for sessions booked through August. All you have to do is inquire below and me, a real ass human, will respond excitedly.
